A blaze which killed a pensioner in her bungalow in Wistaston was started by a faulty fridge, fire chiefs believe. Irene Garratt, 74, was found dead by fire crews battling the blaze on Prior Close.

14 quiz teams battle it out for Wistaston Fred Lorimer Trophy

Fourteen teams of four people battled it out in six rounds of questions at Wistaston’s annual quiz for the Fred Lorimer Trophy. Quiz-masters Peter and Christina Wainwright took charge of the event for the first time at Wistaston Memorial Hall, after Geoff and Sheila Armitage stepped down after more than 20 years.
