Police and council deal with travellers on Barony Park, Nantwich

Police and council officials were called in to move a group of travellers off Barony Park in Nantwich.

The travellers with seven or eight vehicles and caravans, were spotted setting up on a corner of the park near Birchin Lane.

Nantwich councillors have agreed to oppose controversial plans to turn a nearby former RAF camp into a site for travellers.

The plans are to change the use of land at the old Hack Green camp off Coole Lane in Austerson, near Nantwich, to provide nine yards for 10 Showpeople families.

A councillor has dismissed rumours that a proposed gypsy site in the Stapeley area of Nantwich is back on the cards. Cllr Peter Groves (pictured) spoke out about the site off Broad Lane which was originally considered by Cheshire East Council among 11 possible locations.

Land off Broad Lane in Stapeley and Hack Green, near Nantwich, were both considered for possible permanent gypsy sites by Cheshire East Council, it has emerged. They were on a list of 11 sites seriously considered before the council settled on land off Parkers Road/Kent Lane, in Crewe.
