Cheshire East councillors keen to clampdown on cross-border taxi trade

Cheshire East councillors are urging the Government to close a loophole allowing cross-border taxi hiring in an effort to protect children.

New legislation in 2015 made cross-border taxi hiring easier, so vehicles licensed by other councils can lawfully work in Nantwich and Crewe without meeting Cheshire East Council’s requirements.

A man from Nantwich has been charged in connection with an investigation into human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

The 49-year-old man, of James Hall Street, Nantwich, is facing one count of human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, one count of money laundering and 14 counts of controlling women for prostitution.

Houses were raided and people arrested in Nantwich and Crewe today as part of a large investigation into human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Two people, a 49-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, have been arrested in Nantwich and Crewe in connection with the investigation.

South Cheshire residents face human trafficking charges

Three people from South Cheshire have been charged with human trafficking and a fourth with money laundering. The charges follow an extensive investigation by Crewe CID and the Gangmaster Licensing Authority. Officers executed warrants at five addresses in Crewe. Four men and two women were arrested.
