Cheshire East Council is facing a massive £41 million budget shortfall this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to new statistics revealed today.

And it could be one of many authorities considering a S114 notice – which effectively declares those authorities bankrupt.

The figures for the year to March 31 from the Office of National Statistics, show an overall reduction in recorded crime of 2.2 per cent in Cheshire.

Cheshire Police recorded the fourth largest drop in recorded crime across England and Wales, latest figures suggest.

Crime statistics released by the Office of National Statistics show for 12 months ending June 2015 there was an overall drop in crime of 4% – 2,245 fewer crimes.
