A man has been arrested after an investigation into alleged “stalking” of women walking through Crewe town centre.
A 35-year-old is being questioned by police following an arrested in the town yesterday (January 25).
TV presenter Stacey Dooley has been in Cheshire to highlight police work as part of a new documentary on stalking.
It comes as new figures show there were 2,659 stalking offences recorded during 2020/2021, a massive increase from 913 in 2019/2020.
Stalking incidents in Cheshire have more than doubled in a year to more than 1,650, latest statistics reveal.
But new Stalking Protection Orders (SPOs) brought in 18 months ago have only been used 18 times by Cheshire Police, BBC Data Unit figures show.

Stalking offences against women in Cheshire are set to hit a record high, latest figures show.
And it comes as other statistics show the true picture of violence suffered by women in the county, with 13 killed by men in a three year period.
Offenders guilty of crimes like stalking, domestic abuse and exploitation will be offered intervention to address their behaviour under a new Cheshire Police programme.
The scheme will see police officers, victim advocates and healthcare professionals working with victims and offenders of violent crimes.
