Cheshire East Council will drive ahead with scaled-back plans to improve bus services despite the government putting the brakes on some schemes by refusing grant funding.
The council had put together an ambitious bus service improvement programme (BSIP) in the hope of securing funding as part of the government’s national “bus back better” strategy.
Cheshire East Council is proposing to increase Council Tax for thousands of residents by 1.99% for the next four years.
The authority says the proposal is necessary because of increased demand for vital services.
Remembrance Sunday Services were held in Nantwich and nearby villages yesterday.
The services and parades commemorated the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts.
A new on-demand rural bus service to help reduce isolation and connect rural areas with Nantwich has been launched by Cheshire East Council.
The new “go-too” pilot scheme covers a large area south and west of Nantwich, including Bunbury, Wrenbury and Audlem and other villages, where no commercial services are available.

More “virtual” Remembrance Sunday services are being held across Crewe and Nantwich as real services have had to be cancelled because of Covid lockdown.
Nantwich Town Council announced earlier this week they would be streaming the service live from St Mary’s Church in Nantwich.
Saturday bus services connecting rural villages to Nantwich have been reinstated, says Cheshire East Council.
The 70 and 72 services will now give people living in Wrenbury, Audlem, Aston and Bunbury a route in to Nantwich.

Leaders of Cheshire East Council have ruled out protecting bus subsidies in their next council budget.
Currently, the authority spends £1.7 million on subsidising 12 routes across the borough.
