District nurses have been unable to reach some patients since Cheshire East stopped gritting certain routes and there have been several accidents on icy roads, councillors said.
Cheshire East Council axed a number of roads from its gritting schedule this winter following the introduction of new scoring criteria which adheres to national guidelines.

Active travel campaigners are asking Cheshire East to work with HS2 to create a greenway network north of Crewe to Middlewich and Winsford.
Peter Foster, of Active Travel Crewe, said HS2’s environmental statement says “a key aim is to create a green corridor along the new railway, in particular through the provision of additional funds to help stakeholders realise their own green infrastructure projects”.

Three days of icy, non-gritted roads near Nantwich and Audlem saw “three catastrophic accidents and the school bus cancelled”, the former leader of Cheshire East Council said.
Cllr Rachel Bailey (Audlem, Con) told a full council she had not intended speaking on the winter gritting programme and had planned to ask a question about home school transport.

Cheshire East has given the go ahead for a plan to develop walking and cycling networks.
Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) have been developed for Crewe, Congleton, Macclesfield and Wilmslow.
Cheshire East Council has drawn up what it says are “ambitious plans” to transform bus services across the borough.
It hopes the Cheshire East Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) will boost the number of people using buses, which has fallen 24% in the past decade.

At the recent Cheshire East Council meeting (20/10/21), Cllr Quentin Abel presented a notice of motion asking that the Council pledge to join the UK100 Network.
No one can deny Cllr Abel’s commitment or sincerity in bringing this motion to Council and I applaud and support his ambition for a carbon neutral borough.
Broadband company LilaConnect has started work on updating fibre connectivity in Nantwich and Crewe.
Construction is now underway in Stapeley with the aim of providing all homes and businesses access to a gigabit full fibre open access network by the end of 2023.
CCTV bosses have hit back at claims they have not provided enough information on the system’s effectiveness in Nantwich.
Town councillors questioned at a meeting last week whether they should be paying almost £25,000 a year for the monitoring of its 14 cameras.
Following a plan from internet provider Openreach, work will soon be underway for the installation of a greater fibre network for homes and businesses in Nantwich.
Scheduled to begin in August of 2021, the fibre network is expected to see a gradual rollout until complete availability in late 2024.
Nantwich residents can air their views on local transport and parking plans unveiled for the town.
The consultations, which end on 31 January, seek the views of people, communities, elected members and other stakeholders.

Another review of Cheshire East’s bus network is on the cards – two years after the last one saw evening and weekend services axed.
Cheshire East Council has faced repeated calls to reinvest in bus services since the last review in 2018, which led to the council cutting £1 million from its subsidised bus budget.

Town and parish councils are being invited to chip in alongside Cheshire East Council to help improve the borough’s bus network.
