The Environment Agency has issued a Flood Warning for the River Weaver through Nantwich. River levels along the Weaver’s catchment through the town to Shrewbridge Lodge are very high after heavy and persistent rain.
The River Weaver in Nantwich has been placed on Flood Warning by the Environment Agency. Persistent and heavy rain for several days has seen river levels rise as it flows from the A51 near Reaseheath through the town to Shrewbridge Lodge and Nantwich Lake.
These remarkable pictures show the extent of localised flooding in Nantwich after the River Weaver burst its banks. Sent in by Nantwichnews readers Jonathan White and Paul Radbone, the pictures show almost all paths along the river in the town centre are blocked off.
The Environment Agency has today placed a stretch of the River Weaver in Nantwich under a Flood Warning. This means flooding is expected and residents and businesses are warned to take immediate action.
Nantwich and surrounding villages are facing severe disruption as heavy rain causes chaos around the region. Severe downpours through the night and today (July 6) have left some roads almost impassable, including busy Wellington Road and the A500.
A controversial bid to build 146 homes on the old Stapeley Water Gardens site will go before councillors with dozens of objections lodged. But despite fears raised by Environment Agency, highways officers and residents, planners have recommended it be approved.
Angry residents in Nantwich hit out at plans to build 270 more homes on a greenfield site. Hundreds of homes have had leaflets delivered from Gladman Developments Ltd, who hope to build the houses on land off Queens Drive.
