Cheshire East go ahead to buy land for A500 dualling scheme

Council chiefs have been given the all-clear to take all action necessary to buy the land needed for two major roadbuilding projects, including the A500 dualling.

Cheshire East Council’s cabinet agreed that compulsory purchase powers could be used for the A500 dualling scheme near Crewe as well as the Middlewich eastern bypass.

Dualling of the A500 road between Crewe and the M6 motorway has moved a step closer to reality.

Cheshire East Council’s cabinet, at a meeting on Tuesday, gave its endorsement for work to progress on the scheme between junction 16 and the Meremoss roundabout.

A major project to dual the A500 single carriageway between Crewe will start in 2020 after it was given planning approval.

The £55 million project has been unanimously approved by Cheshire East Council’s strategic planning board at a meeting yesterday (December 19).
