The new Mayor of Cheshire East is Nantwich Town councillor and Shavington ward borough councillor David Marren.
Cllr Marren takes over the chains of office from outgoing Mayor, Cllr Sarah Pochin, who represents Bunbury ward.

Cheshire East Council paid out £6,674 in compensation for five complaints upheld by the Ombudsman between August 1 and November 30.

A 72-bedroom care home will be built on Gresty Road in Shavington — despite concerns from one councillor it could burn down like the Notre Dame cathedral.
Cheshire East’s southern planning committee approved the plans yesterday (March 31), paving the way for the 2.5-storey facility to be built.

A development consisting of 100% affordable housing in Shavington has been refused planning permission by Cheshire East councillors.
The plans, which would have seen 40 homes built on land off Newcastle Road, were recommended for refusal by CEC planners.
Nantwich Food Festival directors are set to decide whether to stage this year’s show, with town councillors tonight casting a major doubt over it.

Cheshire East borough chiefs are being asked to reconsider a decision not to introduce a “late night levy” to bring in additional cash for police and the council.
Councils have had the power to implement a late night levy since 2011 – meaning an additional fee would be charged to licenced premises that can sell alcohol between midnight and 6am.
Award-winning South Cheshire charity The End of Life Partnership has received an £8,000 donation from Orbitas.
The End of Life Partnership works with local communities and professionals, supporting them to achieve good quality end of life and bereavement care.
Shavington Primary School has received a £1,000 donation from housing developer Barratts.
Headteacher Rachel Nicholls received the donation as part of the company’s Community Fund Scheme.

Last week’s front page of the Chronicle seemed to be ‘givin it large’ about Kieran Mullan’s suggestion that Cheshire East Council needs to apply for an injunction to prevent travellers occupying the Barony Park, as though an injunction is the “silver bullet” to prevent further occupation.

It is just over 7 weeks since the local Council elections of May 2 saw the overwhelming Conservative majority at Cheshire East Council, a majority in place since the council’s inception in 2009, evaporate with the loss of 18 seats, leaving the Conservatives 8 Councillors short and unable to form the ruling administration.
