Residents are being urged to air views on two new schemes for more direct links for walking and cycling between Crewe railway station and the town centre.
Cheshire East Council says it aims to improve pedestrian and cycle links to encourage an increase in “active travel”.
Free adult cycling sessions including Learn to Ride and Commuter Confidence are to be launched in Cheshire East next month.
The sessions, held in Crewe and Macclesfield, are being organised by Everybody Sport and Recreation.

Cheshire East’s cycling and walking champion is calling on the council to support towns and villages that want to host car-free days.
Cllr Suzie Akers Smith has put forward a motion requesting a communications plan which explains how residents and communities in towns and villages can host a car-free day.
British Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey has officially opened the newly refurbished Nantwich Leisure Centre.
The centre and Barony Sports complex has recently undergone a £2.2 million investment in partnership with Cheshire East Council, with a new gym extension, indoor group cycling studio, new-look reception and Taste for Life café.

As the cycling and walking champion for Cheshire East Council I am very grateful for the changes in the highway Code that protect pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
Walking around myself I have enjoyed walking over junctions rather than running to get out of the way of a vehicle and I have experienced an overall positive impact to my safety whilst being active than before the changes.

Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) have been developed for Crewe, Congleton, Macclesfield and Wilmslow.
A month-long virtual cycling challenge for all ages and abilities, Pedal For Pounds, is coming to South Cheshire in June in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Nantwich will benefit from a £2.1 million investment into Nantwich Leisure Centre as the first phase of the redevelopment project is to begin in May.
Work will include an extended gym and a new Group Cycling Studio, one of the key suggestions by Nantwich members in the Everybody Sport and Recreation annual surveys.

The CEC cabinet today approved the implementation of “Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans” (LCWIPs) — covering Crewe, Congleton, Macclesfield, and Wilmslow.

It was a wonderful feeling being part of the Cheshire East Labour/Independent administration on Wednesday 16th December after voting in favour of a 20’s Plenty in 2020 motion to reduce speed limits on Cheshire East roads where people live and work, on housing developments, town and village centres.
Cheshire East Council is to develop new schemes to promote cycling and walking in the borough after being awarded £588,000 by the government.
The grant follows a bid by the council for a second phase of “active travel” funding from Department for Transport.

Anybody in Cheshire East who has crossed roads and roundabout junctions will have either been tooted off the road, or not been ‘allowed’ to cross.
