PCR testing sites in Crewe and Macclesfield will be closed from Friday (April 1) as part of central government plans to close all free testing sites by the end of March.

Also, from Friday 1 April, free LFD tests will end.

Unvaccinated Cheshire East Council staff who take time off work to self-isolate as a close contact of a Covid-19 case won’t be classed as being off sick.

From yesterday (August 16), people who are double jabbed or aged under 18 are no longer legally required to self-isolate if they are identified as a close contact of a positive Covid-19 case.

The statistics, from NHS England, show that up to April 4, 388,487 residents have had their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine — out of a population of 596,446 — representing 65% of the county’s over-16s.
