A married couple from Nantwich has thanked a specialist hospital team for helping them quit cigarettes – after more than 100 years of smoking between them!

Maureen Gooder, 69, started smoking at 19 and has spent the last 50 years, regularly smoking 17 cigarettes a day.

Discarded smoking materials sparked deadly Nantwich fire

An investigation into a fire which killed a Nantwich couple has found it was started by discarded smoking materials.

Beryl Cooper, 80, and Peter Cooper, 82, were found unresponsive at their bungalow on Mount Close in Nantwich in February.

Couple who died in Nantwich bungalow fire named by Police

A couple found dead in a fire at a bungalow in Nantwich have been named by police as Beryl and Peter Cooper.

Beryl, 80, and Peter, 82, were found unresponsive inside the Mount Close property by fire crews.

A couple’s Nantwich home was ransacked by burglars who stole jewellery and their car while they had popped out to some shopping.

The shocked couple, in their 60s, who wished to remain anonymous, returned to their Audlem Road home in Nantwich to discover the break-in.
