The suspended chief operating officer at Cheshire East Council has quit his job, the authority has confirmed.
Peter Bates was one of three senior officials suspended 16 months ago pending internal investigations.

Chief operating officer Peter Bates was formally suspended today by the council’s investigation and disciplinary committee looking into officer conduct.
