Conserve Nantwich Aqueduct project by Canal and Rivers Trust won the Restoration and Historic Environment Category at the Living Waterways Awards in Birmingham.

Nantwich Aqueduct reopened after £235,000 restoration

The Grade II* listed Nantwich Aqueduct has officially been opened after a two-month restoration project by the Canal & River Trust.

The £235,000 work involved removing layers of old paint from the aqueduct’s structure, replacing a missing cast iron panel, repairs to the stone and brickwork and applying four coats of new paint.

Villagers near Nantwich fear they will be isolated after a bus company said it would not run a service during an eight-week closure of a main road.

Residents in Acton contacted Arriva Buses when they were told the A534 road to Nantwich would be closed during refurbishment work on the Nantwich Aqueduct.

Open Day to show £200,000 Nantwich Aqueduct plans

A public open day is being held in Nantwich to unveil the planned £200,000 restoration of Nantwich Aqueduct, on the Shropshire Union Canal.

The 10-week project is due to start at the end of March and will involve the temporary closure of the A534 Chester Road which runs underneath the aqueduct.
