By Jonathan White Hundreds braved the Bank Holiday showers to enjoy the 201st Audlem Carnival. The event, first held in 1812, took place on the village playing fields and included crowning of the Carnival Queen and other activities.
Half-term workshops are taking place at Nantwich Museum this week to help keep youngsters busy. Salt will be the main theme of the workshops on Wednesday and Thursday May 29 and 30.
Nantwich is to host a day of celebration to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation. There will be fun and activities taking place on Nantwich Town Square next Saturday June 1 from 11am to 2pm.
Nantwich’s outdoor swimming pool reopens this weekend – despite temperatures plummeting to an unseasonably low. Cheshire East Council will be hoping for warmer weather this Bank Holiday to entice swimmers to one of the few remaining inland brine pools.
By Jonathan White The Wistaston Singers took their talents on the road when they travelled from South Cheshire to Derbyshire. They performed an evening concert in front of 80 people at Bakewell Methodist Church in Bakewell.
Eddisbury MP Stephen O’Brien is holding a surgery in Audlem later this month. The public surgery will takes place at Audlem Public Hall on Cheshire Street on Friday May 24 between 4.30pm and 6pm.
By Jonathan White The 34th annual ‘Marbury Merry Days’ two-day country fair attracted hundreds of visitors to the village. The fair was held next to St Michael’s & All Angels Parish Church and Marbury Big Mere, near Wrenbury, Nantwich.
Poor weather failed to dampen spirits at Reaseheath College’s Family Festival, which attracted around 7,000 visitors. The college opened its Nantwich gardens and grounds for the annual event with hundreds of activities.
Hardy villagers held an activity day in Nantwich by switching venues to avoid the torrential rain. Scores of families and youngsters attended the Stapeley Playground activity day which was moved inside to the new community hall.
Leighton Prostate Cancer Support Group will hold a free PSA test session for Nantwich men on June 1. Prostate Specific Antigen testing for men aged 55 will be carried out by fully trained operators at Nantwich Civic Hall.
Hardy runners from Crewe and Nantwich tackled one the highlights of the year at the “killer mile” event in Mow Cop. More than 500 runners braved the wind, rain and notorious Mow Cop hill, including several members of South Cheshire Harriers.
Olympic dressage rider Richard Davison will be in Nantwich for a special masterclass event at Reaseheath College. Davison will be joined by world class showjumper Michael Whitaker and international three-day eventer Alex Hua Tian.
Nantwich Town Centre street entertainment continues next Saturday May 11. There will be a host of entertainment for youngsters in the town square as part of a 25-week programme of events.
