Planning Minister Nick Boles has vowed to meet Nantwich and Crewe campaign groups fighting the loss of “Green Gap” areas. Mr Boles’ pledge comes after concerns of hundreds of residents were raised by local MP Edward Timpson.

TV vet Steve Leonard is the celebrity lined up to switch on the Christmas Lights in Nantwich this year. Leonard (pictured), who lives in Cheshire, is famous for hosting BBC shows including ”Orangutan Diaries” and “Vets in Practice”.
Councillors have warned residents to make their views known about plans for 170 new homes in their Nantwich village. Richborough Estates have applied to build the houses on land off Moorfields, in Willaston.
By Jonathan White Hundreds of villagers gathered for the annual duck and model boat race in Wistaston, near Nantwich. Families crowded on the banks of the Joey the Swan brook for the 18th “Annual Community Duck Race and Children’s Model Boat Race”.
A busy Nantwich road has been closed after a two-car accident. The A530 between Nantwich and Leighton Hospital is closed in both directions in Willaston.
Two Crewe & Nantwich students who received the first educational bursary awards introduced by a local councillor, have graduated. Katrina Morrell and Christine Johnson were among six young people to receive the awards.
Campaigners fighting to stop developers building on village land, took their battle to the streets of Nantwich. Members of Hands off Wistaston (HOW) held a street stall in the town square to highlight their fight to save Crewe and Nantwich “Green Gaps”.
Youngsters from a village near Nantwich were given special prizes for their excellent writing skills. Ella Banks was 1st prize winner in the Laurie Twiss Awards for Journalism for 2013 in Wistaston.
A team of Nantwich fundraisers are setting out to paddle 127 miles down the River Severn for local charities. The group of 12 friends and family, called The Paddlers, hope their four-day adventure will raise £10,000 for five different causes.
By Jonathan White Two members of Wistaston Jubilee Tennis Club helped to organise a 12-hour fund-raising “Tennis-athon”. Ben Reinhardt and Tony Mason played the event while other players joined them during the day.
A Nantwich school scooped glory in the annual Town Sports contest on the town’s Barony Park. Pear Tree Primary, in Stapeley, were crowned overall winners after two intense days of competition involving 29 schools across Crewe and Nantwich.
