Residents are being urged to air views on two new schemes for more direct links for walking and cycling between Crewe railway station and the town centre.

Cheshire East Council says it aims to improve pedestrian and cycle links to encourage an increase in “active travel”.

CEC spends staggering £230,000 a week on taxis for school pupils

Cheshire East Council spends more than £230,000 a week on taxis taking children to and from school.

Figures obtained by the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) through Freedom of Information (FOI) reveal the council pays for 887 children to go to school by taxi at an approximate cost of £231,959.67 per week.

ANSA £29,000 charge for watering Nantwich flowers causes bloomin uproar

Nantwich town councillors are bloomin’ furious after Cheshire East Council said it was more than doubling the cost of watering its floral displays in the town.

ANSA, the environmental arm of CEC, landed Nantwich Town Council with a bill of more than £29,000 for 2022-23 for watering hanging baskets, tubs and planters.

The council introduced its rubble charge – up to £3.50 for a bag – in January 2018.

Tory Cheshire East MP Edward Timpson said Government leaders should lead by example and called it “shameful” those setting the rules did not follow them during lockdown.

Eddisbury MP Mr Timpson issued a statement after Prime Minister Boris Johnson apologised for breaking the rules when he was fined £50 following the police investigation into Partygate.
