CEC warns of sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in Crewe and Sandbach

There has been a significant increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Crewe and Sandbach areas, say council health chiefs.

Crewe accounts for one in five of all COVID-19 cases in the borough with 697 cases per 100,000.

Cheshire East councillors netted more than £1.25 million between them in expenses and allowances in 2020-21, latest figures show.

A basic allowance of £12,351 is paid to each of the 82 elected members, adding up to just short of £1 million.

More than 130 staff working in Cheshire East care homes have not had both Covid jabs, with half of these exempt on medical grounds.

The matter was raised at an adults and health committee where Cllr Arthur Moran (Nantwich North & West, Ind) raised concerns the November deadline for all staff to be double jabbed could have a negative impact on staff numbers.

An injured seal pup, thought to have been attacked by a dog, is recovering at Stapeley Grange RSPCA centre in Nantwich after being rescued from a beach in North Wales.

The dehydrated and underweight male pup was found by a member of British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) last Friday (24 September).

Cheshire East Council’s children’s services department has overspent its budget for the fourth year in a row and the problem has been exacerbated by safeguarding issues because of Covid.

The council as a whole underspent by £1.2m last year, mainly because projects could not be completed because of the pandemic.
