A council-owned company could be set up to protect social care services in Crewe and Nantwich from further cuts.

Care4CE, Cheshire East Council’s provider of adult social care services, has been slashed in size over the past nine years from a workforce of 1,500 to fewer than 700 – while some services are no longer offered.

Figures revealed by the Cheshire Fire Authority show that the service received 17 complaints in 2017-18, compared to 35 in the previous year.

The chairman of a timber company has welcomed a jail sentence for a former director from Nantwich who swindled the firm out of thousands of pounds.

Nigel Bacon (pictured), 53, of Newbold Way, was sentenced to 32 months in prison at Caernarfon Crown Court after he admitted defrauding Clifford Jones Timber, the UK’s largest manufacturer of fence posts.

Nantwich-Crewe Midnight Walk helps raise more than £100,000 for St Luke’s Hospice

Hundreds of women dressed in 80s clothes did the Midnight Walk through the streets of Nantwich and Crewe to raise funds for St Luke’s Hospice.

The Walk, returning for the 14th year, saw hundreds of ladies walk either the full 13.1-mile route or the “half moon” of six miles from Reaseheath College through the streets of Crewe and Nantwich finishing back at Reaseheath in the early hours of Sunday morning.
