Police and fire chiefs’ fears as fatal accidents rise on Cheshire roads

Chief Officers from Cheshire’s three emergency services have voiced their concerns at the rising number of people being killed on the county’s roads.

Forty-six people died in road traffic collisions in Cheshire in 2018, and this year so far 22 people have died – more than one a week.

The Tories suffered a shock loss of control, ending with 34 CEC members – eight short of the number needed for a majority – with Labour on 25, Independents on 19 and Liberal Democrats on four.

Three men have been sentenced after a police dashcam caught motorcyclists travelling at speeds of up to 137mph on Cheshire’s roads.

The officer, riding an unmarked police motorcycle, had to travel at 125mph to catch up to the group after they had passed him on the A41 Whitchurch Road near Broxton on September 2.

Figures from the council show on April 30 2009, CEC had a headcount of 6,522 employees – excluding school staff and casual workers.
