Ambulance bosses confident A530 closure will not endanger patients
Ambulance bosses say they are confident the closure of the busy A530 Middlewich Road to Leighton Hospital will not endanger patients in an emergency.
It comes after one resident revealed how a paramedic warned him that “people in Audlem will die” because of the time it is taking ambulances to get to Leighton.
School Covid rates drop amid mental health warning on pupils

Covid cases in Cheshire East schools have dropped rapidly but one councillor fears the pandemic has sparked a “ticking time bomb” in our children’s mental health.
The number of reported Covid-19 cases in the borough’s schools dropped from around 9,000 in January to 4,000 in March and was down to 97 in April.

A Cheshire East Council officer rang a 94-year-old deaf and blind woman asking her to read out details for her new disability badge – even though the council itself had certified her blind.
The council has apologised for the blunder which left Hilda Bates distressed and embarrassed because she was unable to provide the answers.

Staff and volunteers at Leighton Hospital have marked its 50th birthday half a century to the day it was opened by the Queen in 1972.
Phil Malam, the Trust’s longest serving member of staff who started working at Leighton just days before the Queen arrived, cut the anniversary cake.

Crewe vaccination site closes after more than 100,000 Covid jabs

A Covid vaccination centre set up in Crewe Honda showroom jabbed its last patient on Thursday (March 31).
A large section of the showroom on West Street has been used as a vaccination centre since January 2021 and has administered more than 100,000 jabs to people across Crewe and Nantwich.

A nurse at Leighton Hospital’s Emergency Care Department is to trek to Everest Basecamp to raise money for Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity (MCH Charity).
Sister Steph Plimbley will start her trek on Thursday (April 7) and continue for 12 days.
Cheshire East Council struggling to fill 75 care provider vacancies

Cheshire East Council has 75 full time vacancies it is struggling to fill at its Care4CE service provider at a time when pressure is mounting with more people needing care.
The council is ramping up its recruitment efforts but Jill Broomhall, operational director of adult social care at Cheshire East Council, said the private sector was struggling too, with lower paid staff leaving for higher paid jobs in other sectors and managers being head-hunted.
Free Covid-19 testing in Cheshire East to end on Friday April 1st
PCR testing sites in Crewe and Macclesfield will be closed from Friday (April 1) as part of central government plans to close all free testing sites by the end of March.
Also, from Friday 1 April, free LFD tests will end.
CEC contacts Government over Covid pressure on schools

Cheshire East has contacted Government education chiefs about the growing pressure on schools as teachers continue to pick up Covid from pupils.
Director of education Jacky Forster told the council’s children and families committee that Covid was having a bigger impact in primary than secondary schools at present.
