RSPCA appeal as hundreds of baby birds flock to Nantwich wildlife centre

Staff at Nantwich’s RSPCA wildlife centre are appealing for donations of food after being inundated with baby birds.

Stapeley Grange, on London Road, currently has hundreds of baby birds and many require a diet of ‘meaty loaf’ dog food to help them grow.

A Nantwich headteacher is investigating cladding used on his school buildings, in light of the Grenfell Tower disaster which claimed more than 70 lives.

Andrew Cliffe, head of Brine Leas School on Audlem Road, says he has asked “questions” about cladding on a number of buildings on his site in wake of the tragedy.

Three orphaned baby kestrels found helpless at the bottom of a tree are being cared back to full health at the RSPCA wildlife centre in Nantwich.

A member of the public found the birds – initially thinking they were owls – shaking and frightened in the grounds of a residential home in South Yorkshire.

Nantwich RSPCA appeal after swan found shot and cygnets missing

The RSPCA is urging residents to look out for local wildlife after a swan was taken to Stapeley Grange wildlife centre in Nantwich with multiple injuries – on the same day seven of her cygnets went missing.

The swan, nicknamed Mabel, is a known character on the River Weaver in nearby Northwich, along with her mate Albert and their nine cygnets.

An exhibition of two Roman hoards discovered in Cheshire has opened at Nantwich Museum and will run until Saturday July 8.

The coins and jewellery were buried for safe keeping nearly 2,000 years ago but their owners never returned for them.
