A healthcare company teamed up with a Nantwich school to support a wellbeing programme which sees children taking part in Pilates and yoga at breaktimes.
Physiotherapists from ctchealthcare visited Highfields Academy to introduce new exercise moves and techniques for mindfulness and relaxation.
Adrianna Hynowska, based at the company’s Nantwich clinic, is trained to lead Pilates for children.
She said: “Pilates can work wonders for any age.
“It increases flexibility, strengthens muscles, corrects posture and improves concentration.
“All great for schoolchildren and we were delighted to see such happy and alert children enjoying exercise at Highfields.”
Mother-of-two Nathalie Piccarolo, a person-centred counsellor, added: “ctchealthcare is all about looking after the mind as much as the body and this can start at any age.
“Much of my work has been with high schoolchildren. Mindfulness has been extremely helpful in reducing their stress and anxiety levels.
“Highfields is a good example of a school that cares about health and wellbeing and creating resilience to last a lifetime.”
Highfields, an Academy status school, was the first in Nantwich town centre to earn a Bronze Self Care Award from the NHS South Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group for signposting families to the health helpline 111 and to self-referral services such as physiotherapy and counselling.
It promotes all forms of exercise from hockey, football and netball to dancing to chart-topping pop songs.
This week it’s hosting a ‘Sugar Shocker’ workshop showing children the hidden sugar in food and there will be sessions on the importance of sleep, exercise and drinking water.
Highfields and its pre-school facility, Little Crickets, welcomes visits from prospective parents. For more information call 01270 371196.

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
