Good Friday - Easter Service - the congregation sing a hymn (1)

St Mary’s Church in Acton, near Nantwich, organised several events over the sunny Easter weekend, writes Jonathan White.

On Good Friday, visitors to the church enjoyed an Outdoor Service, an Easter Trail and an Easter Garden.

The service was led by Revd Anne Lawson and parishioners contributed with readings from the Bible.

Hymns were sung – accompanied by Peter Foster (organist) who played the pianica.

The Easter Trail walk was organised by Joyce Percival and started in the churchyard and followed strategically placed Crosses towards Wilbraham Road and through a field to a stone footbridge over the Shropshire Union Canal.

The route was marshalled by volunteers and the walkers could choose to either follow the canal towards Welsh Row and back along Chester Road, or opt for a longer route following the footpath across Henhull farm fields onto Welshmen’s Lane before returning along the Chester Road.

Pinned to the numerous Crosses along the Easter Trail were passages from the Bible illustrating the Easter message and including a children’s Easter question.

Deana Emerton and helpers, used an abundance of spring flowers to create an Easter Garden and tomb in the Churchyard.

On Easter Saturday, there was an outdoor remembrance service for people grieving the loss of a loved one during the previous 12 months.

The Easter Trail crosses were relocated to areas within the Churchyard.

On Easter Sunday a service was held inside the Church. The Easter Tomb entrance stone was opened, and the tomb was decorated with additional flowers.

The Church exterior and Churchyard were dressed with dozens of butterflies – their life cycle portraying the life of Jesus.

Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus was crucified on a Friday (Good Friday) and rose again three days later on Easter Sunday.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
