A Nantwich man’s online picture diary of life in Iraq is gaining national recognition.

Bruce Chadwick has been keeping the diary for over a year while he works in Basra as a private military contractor.

The 39-year-old has been in Iraq for seven years, providing security for US civilians who are training Iraqi military in engine repair and flying of F-16 fighters.

And last year he decided to take advantage of his position to chronicle in pictures a more everyday life look at the war-ravaged nation.

Now his online picture journal, called Days In Iraq, has been featured in national newspaper like the Metro.

The former Sandbach Boys School pupil began taking pictures two years ago after acquiring a cheap camera, and has had help from press photographers he has met while stationed in Iraq.

Some of his pictures include friends swimming in the sea, military helicopter landing at dusk, and a human dummy armed with a rifle among others.

“To most people in the UK, Iraq has been a series of misery and explosions,” he told Metro.

‘I realised I was in a unique position to show the world, on a day-to-day basis, a side of Iraq that is rarely seen.

“I was fortunate enough to be working with many photographers and cameramen from the world’s press who were more than happy to pass on their experience.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
