thermi-scanners at Stapeley Broad Lane

A Nantwich school is checking every pupil’s temperature as they arrive in a bid to keep it Covid free.

Stapeley Broad Lane C of E Primary, in Broad Lane, is one of the first schools in the area to use stand-alone devices which scan the temperature of each pupil, staff member and visitor as they enter the building.

Thermi-scanner devices are located at each of the entrances and provide an audio and visual message to confirm temperature within 0.3 degrees centigrade.

Anyone with a raised temperature is required to head home and potentially self-isolate if other Covid-19 symptoms appear.

The devices have been donated by Stapeley Broad Lane parents from EPG Security Systems in Shavington.

Headteacher Ian Shackleton said: “These devices give parents and teachers added peace of mind knowing that everyone entering school is having their temperature checked quickly and efficiently.

Stapeley Broad Lane headteacher Ian Shackleton“The pandemic is a worrying time for us all and these devices from EPG add additional protection which helps us maintain as near normal an education for our children as possible.”

Many schools in the area have had to send whole classes or year groups home due to one or two confirmed positive Covid cases.

This is because pupils are placed in “bubbles” and those who could be a ‘close contact’ of an infected person must self-isolate at home for 14 days.

Brine Leas School has had to send several year groups home in the past few weeks, as have primary schools in Willaston, Wistaston and Shavington.

We revealed earlier this week that, up to October 16, there had been 39 positive Covid cases in schools in Cheshire East with almost 3,000 pupils and 130 staff having to be sent home to isolate.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
