I’ve missed the theatre during lockdown, and like other theatre fans I’ve taken the opportunity to watch a number of plays recorded by national companies which have been available online.
So I was absolutely thrilled when Nantwich Players announced that they would be streaming their latest production of The Regina Monologues.
To produce any show during lockdown is an amazing achievement, and The Players have worked hard to present a production in compliance with the current government Covid 19 guidelines for theatres.
Directed by Bethany Froud, written by Rebecca Russell and Jenny Wafer, The Regina Monologues tells the stories of the six wives of Henry VIII in a modern context and imagines how their lives might unfold if told today.
The cast were wonderful.
Each gave strong performances telling their individual and quite different stories of having a relationship with the same man. Sometimes funny and sometimes deeply emotional.
Janan Chopra played Cathy, Sian Weedon played Annie, Katy Walker played Jane, Bethany Froud played Anna, Faye McCallum played Katie and Elaine Caulfield played Katherine.
I enjoyed watching this production.
Getting the link and access was straight forward and I didn’t experience any technical issues whilst watching the play.
The sound, lighting and vision mixing were all clear.
I do love the experience of going to the theatre, but under the current situation, I’d happily support NP Live if they decided to produce more online productions.
It’s wonderful to see our local theatre still running during these difficult times.
The play wasn’t my cup of tea but well done to the Nantwich Players, a positive move in the right direction. Should further plays be available I would watch and if nominal payment required I would even pay.
