cycle friendly town

Dear Editor,

As Covid-19 tightened its grip on our country, CEC Leader Cllr Corcoran boasted of being able to cycle down the high street without the inconvenience of vehicles.

As many of us ‘got on our bicycles’ and/or retrieved our walking boots from the loft, the importance of space became paramount and government announced monies to enable social distancing.

In May, rushed announcements of ‘pavement widening’ were made by Cllrs Laura Crane, Cabinet Member for Highways and Susie Ackers-Smith, Cycling Champion.

Town and Parish Councils in particular were given a matter of days to respond with plans of how social distancing in our towns and villages could be enhanced whilst encouraging pedestrians and cyclists.

Yet at Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting we heard nothing more than the ‘snail pace’ Labour/Independent administration’s desire for Active Travel, but yet again No Action.

Cllr Crane’s promise of, ‘it will be implemented in the coming weeks’ was eerily akin to her disconnect with car parking issues.

So, all we have are the soon-to-be replaced, I presume, 2-metre pavement stickers or if you are lucky the road closures which, in some towns have created both a ‘rave arena’ and ‘race track’!

Conservatives demand action now, particularly as we approach the school holidays, we want to know that families can be active and safe on Cheshire East roads.

Yours,
Cllr David Brown
Conservative

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
