A51 Bypass crash

Breaking news…
A lorry driver was killed when his HGV ploughed off a bridge over a Cheshire motorway and landed on the carriageway.

Cheshire Police and other emergency services are at the scene on the M56, which comes three days after Britain’s worst motorway pile-up on the M5.

The M56 crash happened shortly before 3.30pm at junction 11 Preston Brook, between Warrington and Runcorn.

The HGV lost control and left the carriageway as it was travelling on a bridge over the motorway at junction 11.

The truck, full of household goods, crashed down onto the westbound carriageway.

Several vehicles struck the lorry as it lay stranded in the motorway, but there are no reports of other casualties.

The M56 is now closed in both directions and traffic is being diverted off the motorway at junction 11.

Commuters are urged to avoid the M56 in Cheshire and seek alternative routes, with knock on effects on all major routes south towards Nantwich such as the A49 and A51.

The motorway is expected to be closed for several hours which will impact heavily on rush hour traffic.

The A56 above the motorway leading from Preston Brook to Warrington is also closed.

It’s not clear if anyone has been injured

Any witnesses to the collision are urged to contact Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
