Two more patients have died at Leighton Hospital after contracting COVID-19, health chiefs have confirmed.

It brings the total to four people who have died from the virus.

The latest death is of a man in his 60s, with underlying health conditions.

The third to die was a woman in her 70s on Saturday.

In a statement, Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Chief Executive James Sumner said: “Sadly, we can confirm that we have had a total of four patients being cared for at Leighton Hospital who have tested positive for COVID-19 and died.

“The fourth patient was in his 60s and had underlying health conditions.

“His family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”

Nationally, the virus has claimed more than 300 lives.
