Gainsborough red card - Callum saunders scores for nantwich v workington

Nantwich Town suffered a frustrating 1-0 defeat away at Morpeth as the Dabbers failed to capitalise and their dominant display.

Ben Harmison’s 77th minute strike in front of just under 400 supporters was enough for the Northumberland side to secure all three points.

But on the long journey home, Nantwich players will have wondered how they lost a game they controlled for the most part.

Callum Saunders (pictured) could have had a penalty in the 10th minute after being brought down, but the referee waved away appeals.

Saunders, Cooke and Devine all had chances in the first half but were thwarted by a stubborn Morpeth defence who blocked everything.

Joe Malkin went close in the 53rd minute, and Saunders’ fine shot two minutes later was brilliantly saved by Lowson in the hosts’ goal.

Mwasile came on for Saunders on 75 minutes, and moments later Morpeth took the lead.

A long ball was flicked on and then headed home by Harmison with Dabbers keeper Greg Hall stranded.

Former Stoke City star Ricardo Fuller came on and combined with Cooke on 90 minutes to go close to a leveller.

Then Davis almost scored on 93 minutes as he flicked a header from a corner narrowly over the bar.

The defeat leaves Nantwich in ninth place in the BetVictor Northern Premier League, five points behind the final play off place but with games in hand.

They return to action next Saturday December 14 when they welcome Buxton to the Weaver Stadium, kick off 3pm.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
