airman's grave sculpture in Nantwich

A series of public sculptures in Cheshire including the airman’s grave in Nantwich are to be showcased by Art UK.

They will join around 100,000 sculptures from around the UK to feature in the online project by 2020.

There are now more than 70 sculptures from Cheshire to be featured on the website.

The airman’s grave is a memorial tablet mounted on a sloping surface made of slate.

It commemorates Lt Arthur Leslie Brown, an American pilot who lost control of his plane in 1944

Instead of bailing out, he stayed by the controls to steer it clear from the town centre and prevented serious loss of civilian life as it crashed on the banks of the River Weaver.

His body was never recovered and his grave has been maintained by Nantwich Town Council and the brownies.

Cheshire East Reflects First World War monument is included, as is the life-sized sculpture of black Labrador, Treo, which pays tribute to the dog who sniffed out explosives in Afghanistan.

The range of outdoor public sculptures from Cheshire are available to be viewed online

Around 100,000 sculptures will join the Art UK website by 2020.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
