Fire crews across the county helped tackle a large farm blaze in Broomhall, Nantwich.
The fire, believed to have started accidentally, broke out at around 12.15pm yesterday on Heatley Lane, Broomhall.
It involved 4,000 tonnes of hay and plastic sheeting spread over the top of it.
The fire had also spread to weire netting, tyres and railway sleepers.
Seven fire engines from Nantwich, Crewe, Audlem, Tarporley, Congleton and Whitchurch were called to the scene along with an aerial ladder platform from Chester.
Cheshire Fire crews consulted with the farmer and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus began using a hose reel jet to fight the fire.
Two covering jets were also set up.
An aerial ladder platform was in attendance to help fight the fire from above.
Firefighters were preparing to remove quantities of plastic sheeting, wire netting and tyres.
Police cordoned the road off to keep motorists and passers by safe.
Fire crews were also helped by the farmer and his machinery to expose hay affected by the fire and damp it down to make it safe.
They had brought the fire under control by around 3.30pm and four of the seven fire engines left the farm, along with the aerial ladder platform.
By 5pm, one fire engine from Audlem remained at the scene to monitor the temperature of the affected area with a thermal imaging camera.
This was to ensure that there were no hotspots which could ignite.
The final fire engine left at around 6pm.
A fire spokesperson said: “Firefighters were in attendance for five-and-a-half hours.
“The fire is believed to have been started accidentally.”
