dementia friendly events in nantwich

Nantwich could be turned blue next year by supporters of Dementia Action Week.

The week, in May 2020, aims to raise awareness and sets out to have fun helping the town become more dementia friendly.

The campaign aims to involve shops, cafés, pubs and local businesses, as well as homes and schools.

Lynn Lurcock, chair of Dementia Friendly Nantwich, said: “We aim to be inclusive and thoughtful of how everyone can play their part and considering how a blue Nantwich could seize the opportunity to highlight our town centre pride for our public realm.

“While the date seems far in the future, we will need that time to prepare for the whole week and invite all Nantwich Town stakeholders and residents to join us on that journey to embrace a blue week and to support us in the best way possible.

“The vision is to see lots of blue things across the town including its windows, on the pavement, on benches, in flower beds, in the churches, people wearing blue, blue iced cakes on plates or even blue hair!

“There are lots of super easy things you can do to play your part that will help us create our message see below for ideas of how to show your support.”

Residents are being urged to get involved in a number of ways:

– Get knitting – making blue forget-me-nots which is the symbol representing dementia, that could be made into bunting, brooches, hair pins, displayed in vases, decorating different spaces, or even planted in the ground or plant pot
– Create and craft – blue paper flowers, painted pots, or something special for your window, or why not customise a piece of furniture by blue yarn decorating a chair/bench outside your café, or even a bike
– Inspired food – consider how your menu could be a little bit blue, blue cakes, blue smoothies
– Fashion – be daring have fun wear a blue flower in your hair, dress your shop window in all your blues
– Gardens and public realm – consider a blue flower bed, or planter

“We hope schools, public services, residents and community/voluntary sector organisations will want to support and get creative so we can together kick start this amazing blue week in May 2020 that we hope will expand year on year,” added Lynn.

“Any help you can provide including any sponsorship would be most appreciated.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
