Reaseheath College’s Health and Wellbeing team has been recognised by the Association of Colleges (AoC) at its national awards.
The Nantwich college’s team of professionals was runner-up in the Mental Health and Wellbeing category of the AoC Beacon Awards, which showcase best practice and innovation among colleges.
The award underlines the work colleges do to counter the rise in mental ill health among students and the general public.
Reaseheath has successfully implemented a “whole college” approach to mental health and wellbeing which is aimed at establishing a safe, happy and healthy community on campus.
The college is committed to supporting students and staff with mental health issues through resources and expertise in education, prevention, early intervention and referral to external agencies.
The approach has resulted in increased student retention and achievement, students with learning difficulties and disabilities achieving above national averages and majority of students reporting they feel safe on campus and that they have grown in confidence.
There has also been a reduction in staff turnover and sickness levels.
Assessors toured the campus and received feedback from students, staff and external stakeholders.
Nicola McCleave Reaseheath’s Health and Wellbeing Manager, said: “We received amazing feedback from the judges and I feel very proud we have achieved so much in a relatively short space of time.
“We have created a culture where people feel able to talk openly about their mental health and we work in partnership with external agencies and organisations to achieve this.”
Reaseheath Principal Marcus Clinton added: “This is a real endorsement of our hard working and inspiring Health and Welbeing team.
“We recognise there can be many challenges within education and the commitment both students and staff have to make.
“This demonstrates we are there, every step of the way, helping all to achieve and succeed.”
