Crewe & Nantwich v Veseyans 3

Crewe and Nantwich RUFC 1sts maintained their strong winning run with another battling victory over Midlands side Veseyans.

Their 22-10 victory was the fifth consecutive league win, produced in driving rain and biting winter wind at the Vagrants in Willaston.

As in the previous week, Crewe were put under pressure from the kick off, this time conceding a try by the visiting centre converted by the fly half to give Veseyans a 0-7 lead.

Gradually, Crewe started to claw their way back and were soon rewarded by another try from talisman hooker Eli Woodward, conversion missed, to make it 5-7.

This was quickly followed up by another try from Woodward who seems to relish these conditions, to make it 10-0.

Kicker Jim Creighton struggled in the muddy and windy conditions and missed a second conversion attempt.

Much of the game was played in the half way area with the sides cancelling each other out, both struggling in the terrible weather.

However, Creighton managed to create some space for wing Tom Vanstone to go over in the corner, this time well converted by Creighton making the half time score 17-7.

Veseyans scored first in the second half, this time from a penalty from a ruck infringement to make it 17-10.

Cohesive rugby was almost impossible in the Storm Deirdre conditions and it was left to hooker Woodward to complete his hat-trick and earn Crewe a well-deserved bonus point victory.

After a difficult start to the season, Crewe are gelling and introducing talented young colts along the way.

Head coach John Farr and team manager Dan Potts will be looking forward to taking their form into 2019.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
