Thomas Maguire, Crewe & Nantwich 1st team

Crewe and Nantwich RUFC 1sts made it four consecutive league wins when they trounced Telford in torrential rain.

A spilled catch from the kick off put Crewe under pressure and they spent the first ten minutes defending their line.

This they did and soon broke up field but any free flowing back moves were thwarted by the terrible conditions.

They resorted to the forwards and were soon rewarded with a try from hooker Eli Woodward who powered over in a typical style try – converted by fly half Jim Creighton for 0-7.

Any hopes Crewe had of building a big lead were thwarted by the weather.

But possession and pressure were rewarded by a carbon copy try from talisman hooker Woodward again – improved by Creighton 0-14 which was the final score of the half.

The rain eased in the second half and Crewe scored early, Matt Stanley being rewarded for another good display with a try 0-19.

Handling was still difficult but Crewe were now controlling the game and hard working centre Tom McGuire (pictured, above) crossed for the next try converted by Creighton 0-26.

An injury to skipper Elliot Alstom brought on one of last year’s Colts Eddie Cooper who made an immediate impact with some strong runs and big hits and soon crossed the line for his first senior try 0-31.

Crewe then brought their other subs on colt Taine Hawthorne for his first team debut and young utility back Liam McKinnon and they both slotted in well in difficult conditions.

It was some time before Crewe finished the scoring with a try from a well worked line out move finished by prop Chris Sproston which was well converted by Creighton making the final score 0-38.

Meanwhile, the Crewe & Nantwich Junior Colts remain undefeated following another victory, this time against West Park (St Helen’s), by 30-15.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
