Nantwich Town continued their unbeaten home form in the league with a hard-fought victory over fellow high flyers Warrington Town.
The Dabbers emerged with a 2-1 win in a tight contest, which keeps Dave Cooke’s side in second place in Evo Stik Premier Division
Two first-half goals by Sean Cooke and Joe Mwasile put Nantwich in control at the break.
But the visitors hit back strongly in the second half, and reduced the arrears on 74 minutes through Adam Hughes.
Warrington piled on the pressure late on, and had a goal disallowed on 88 minutes after a scramble at the far post.
Dabbers keeper Fabian Speiss also came to Nantwich’s rescue as Warrington launched balls into the box but could not find a leveller.
Cooke opened the scoring on 5 minutes with a clever free-kick which took Warrington keeper by surprise.
Nantwich dominated the early exchanges with Cooke, Mwasile, and James Lawrie causing most of the problems.
Lawrie linked up with Matt Bell on 35 minutes and saw his effort cannon off the crossbar.
But just three minutes later, the hosts deservedly added a second.
Steve Jones’ pass found Mwasile on the right side of the box who struck a fine shot which flew into the bottom left corner.
Warrington were much improved after the break, with Evans and Gray both going close before Hughes’ free-kick reduced the arrears.
But Nantwich held out and are now just five points behind leaders Scarborough Athletic with a game in hand.
The Dabbers welcome Matlock Town to the Weaver Stadium this Saturday, November 3, kick off 3pm.
