plays - Nantwich Players Theatre - The Witches

Directed by Chris Ridge, Nantwich Players’ latest production is ‘Breaking The Code’ by Hugh Whitemore, writes Claire Faulkner.

It’s a remarkable, strong and powerful play which tells the story of Alan Turing, the man who cracked the Enigma code and devised the modern computer.

The Players have done the story justice.

It’s quite easily the best amateur production that I’ve seen this year.

It’s a dramatic, intense and sad story of a remarkable man.

The cast and crew have done an amazing job. Alan Turing was played by Colin Johnston, who portrayed the genius of the man, as well the softer and more gentle side of his character.

Danny Froud played Ron Miller, and there is a wonderful scene depicting when Ron and Alan first met in a pub.

Another poignant and outstanding scene is at the police station when Mick Ross, played by Jonathan Everritt, takes statements from Turing and Miller.

It’s a clever, well performed and thoughtful piece of theatre.

I enjoyed watching this production very much.

It’s a long play and it’s not an easy story to tell. Given the opportunity I would go and see it again.

Everyone involved in this run should be proud of what they’ve achieved.

‘Breaking The Code’ is on at The Players theatre until October 27.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
