The local news landscape in South Cheshire is changing – and Nantwich News continues to lead the way with the latest community content.
Reach plc, formerly Trinity Mirror Regional, has this week ended the Crewe Chronicle digital brand by merging three titles into a new, Cheshire-wide platform called Cheshire Live.
Also this week it emerged that local magazine The Dabber is to cease publication, with owners Volume PR saying they wish to “focus on other aspects of the business”.
The bi-monthly publication was delivered in the town for six years, starting out as a 24-page magazine, but recently being reduced to just eight pages.
Meanwhile, Nantwich News continues to grow with record figures of more than 860,000 page views and 225,000 unique readers in the first eight months of 2018, and now more than 18,000 social media followers.
Reach plc says its decision to merge three digital titles – Crewe Chronicle, Chester Chronicle and Macclesfield Express – into one new site will not impact on their newspaper products.
The company says the move is to provide a “county-wide digital service”, which will also cover Warrington, Knutsford, Wilmslow, Congleton, Runcorn and Widnes.
Facebook pages and twitter accounts will also be re-branded as Cheshire Live.
Launching the new service, a statement on the Cheshire Live website said: “We’re a new digital brand which brings the Chester Chronicle, Crewe Chronicle and Macclesfield Express websites together under the same umbrella; and will provide a one-stop online shop which readers can rely on to deliver what they need to know about the county they call home.
“As well as continuing to serve the communities we already do via our print editions, we are expanding to become a county-wide digital news service. So Cheshire Live will also become the home of news from towns including Warrington, Knutsford, Wilmslow, Congleton, Runcorn and Widnes.
“We are proud of our history as a trusted source of news and information since 1775, when we began our journey serving the area as the Chester Chronicle.
“We also know we have a bright future and this is a new chapter.”
Trinity Mirror closed the Crewe Chronicle office in 2014 and this latest restructure appears to mean the end of a dedicated Nantwich reporter for the organisation.
