Detectives are urging residents to remain vigilant amid a rise in catalytic converter thefts across South Cheshire.

Officers have received four separate reports of thefts involving catalytic converters in the Crewe and Middlewich areas.

On each occasion the offenders have specifically targeted Honda Accords on driveways.

Detective Sergeant Daniel Loveridge, of Cheshire Police, said: “Investigations in relation to these in incidents are ongoing and we are following a number of lines of enquiry.

“While this investigation takes place I encourage motorists to remain vigilant and review any security measures they have in place.

“While only Honda Accords have been targeted so far, other vehicles that may be at risk include those with a large ground clearance.

“I also ask scrap metal dealers to be mindful if they are offered a catalytic converter or exhaust system and to contact police if they are in any doubt.”

There are a number of steps motorists can take to reduce their chance of becoming a victim, including:

– park your car in a garage
– mark the metal shell of the converter with a unique mark
– if catalytic converter is bolted on, the bolts can be welded shut
– consider the way your vehicle is parked to reduce the chances of the catalytic converter being stolen
– good quality lighting will improve natural surveillance and deter potential thieves
– CCTV may reduce offences and any CCTV systems should be well signed.

Anyone with information about the thefts, or if you see anyone acting suspiciously in your community, call Cheshire Police on 101.

Alternatively, information can also be reported anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
