A man in his 50s was killed after being hit by a train at Nantwich railway station, police have confirmed.

The victim, from the local area, was struck by an Arriva Trains Wales train shortly after 6.40pm yesterday (February 14), British Transport Police have said.

The incident sparked long delays and diversions for a number of services between Wales, Crewe and Manchester.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Shortly after 6.40pm we were called to Nantwich station to reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Officers attended, however a man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His family have been informed.

“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Services returned to normal at around 8.30-9pm last night.
