Nantwich Town goalkeeper Fabian Spiess is delighted to return to the first-team picture after a long-term injury, writes Ryan Batty.
Spiess dislocated his shoulder back in the August home draw with Altrincham.
But further damage was done when he returned to the first team in October against Stafford.
Now, the German insists he is raring to go ahead of a busy Christmas period going into the second half of the season.
“I obviously want to be playing week-in, week-out and being sidelined for so long has been very disappointing,” he said.
“It [the injured shoulder] is a complex joint, but I’m hoping by training and playing regularly, I can eventually get it back to normal.
“I’m excited to get back out there and help the boys climb that table!”
He also believes The Dabbers are on a stretch of encouraging form after watching Dave Cooke’s side from the stands over the last few months.
“We’re on a good run at the moment and at times, I think we play like a play-off side.
“We need to find some real consistency and iron out the little mistakes.
“Winning becomes a habit and that’s what we want to achieve.”
Spiess also reckons Nantwich have been unlucky with injuries, but can make a push to climb the league table.
“I don’t think we’ve had many games where all 11 players were at their peak without niggles and knocks.
“We’ve got a few games in hand on other teams and the games will be coming thick and fast now.
“And as I said before, the key is making winning a habit, if we can do that I’m sure we can really climb up the table.”
Their effort continues tomorrow (December 23) as they face a difficult trip to the Lake District to face fifth-placed Workington.
But Spiess believes if Nantwich can play how he knows they can, they could potentially bag themselves an early Christmas present with the win.
“It will be a tough fixture.
“Not sure who decided to put Workington away on 23rd of December but I’m not happy with whoever it was!
“They’re on a good run themselves but anyone can beat anyone in this league.
“They’ll be expecting a tough game and I’m sure we can go there and get the three points.”
Nantwich return to the Weaver Stadium on Boxing Day to host Sutton Coldfield.
