Fire crews had to battle a blaze on a diesel train at Calveley, between Nantwich and Chester.
The blaze broke out on board the engine compartment of the train close to Station Road at around 4am yesterday (October 21).
Two fire engines attended from Crewe, one from Tarporley, one from Nantwich and one from Chester were called out.
It’s not clear how many railway workers were on board the train at the time.
Firefighters used three powder extinguishers, one hose reel jet, two breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.
At around 11am, one fire engine from Chester was called to assist with the recovery of the train, and fire investigators remained on scene for a large part of the day.
It’s thought no one was injured but a Cheshire Fire Service investigation into the cause is continuing.
