Macon Way and Grand Junction Retail Park remain closed this morning after a serious fire engulfed the disused Macon House last night.
Police said today emergency services remain in attendance at the scene of the blaze close to the town’s fire station and the McDonald’s restaurant.
The incident, on Macon Way, Crewe, was initially reported at to police at 4.37pm yesterday (September 28).
A police spokesman said this morning: “As a result of the fire Macon Way and Grand Junction Retail Park remain closed at the current time.
“The closure means that a number of businesses in the area are currently inaccessible and motorists are advised to avoid the area at the current time.
“Further updates will be provided throughout the day.”
Businesses and homes close by were evacuated amid fears that the building on fire contained asbestos.
Macon House formerly housed adult care services provided by Cheshire East Council, which then moved to a new base at the Lifestyle Centre.
The building has been unoccupied and fenced off since 2015.
