M6 - Cheshire Police motorway patrol

Thousands of people were caught up in travel chaos in South Cheshire after the M6 was closed in both directions when two lorries collided.

It caused more than 18,000 litres of corrosive liquid to spill across the carriageway between junctions 18 and 19.

The collision between a tanker and a LGV happened at around 1pm.

All traffic travelling north was forced to leave the M6 at junction 16, with thousands of vehicles using the A500 Shavington and Nantwich bypasses, and the A51.

There were two people injured but not seriously.

But the tanker began leaking and surrounding cars on the motorway had to be evacuated.

The M6 remains closed in both directions and officers are working at the scene to free motorists trapped in the tailbacks.

In addition, the A5033 is also closed in both directions from the A556 to the A50, Manchester Road, Knutsford.

As a result of the collision, there are severe delays across the Cheshire road network and motorists are advised to avoid all but essential travel.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route if possible.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
