Police say two arson attacks on town centre church buildings in Nantwich are linked.

Officers are appealing for witnesses following the two fires which happened on Monday night, June 19.

In the first incident, at around 8.45pm, rubbish bin bags were set on fire outside the front entrance of St Mary’s Church on Church Lane.

Then between 9.15 and 9.30pm, offenders are believed to have entered the former Wesleyan Methodist Church on Hospital Street and deliberately set the building alight.

Four people were seen running away from the scene in an unknown direction.

Det Cons Dave Newton, of Crewe Local Policing Unit, said: “We are currently following up a number of lines of inquiry but I want to urge anyone who may have seen any suspicious behaviour around the time the fire was started to contact police.

“If you have any information, which could help with our investigation please come forward.

“We will also be carrying out patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident 1087 of 19 June.

Information can also be passed on anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
