traveller - travellers on Barony Park April 2017

A cross-party working group of community members has met to tackle the problems of travellers illegally setting up camps on Barony Park in Nantwich.

Councillors from all parties, officers from Cheshire East and Nantwich Town Council, and Cheshire police officers and residents’ representatives, have met to address the issue.

It follows a series of complaints over the past 12 months when travellers’ groups have driven on to the council-owned park to camp.

It usually takes local authorities a number of days to gain court permission to remove them.

Councillor Paul Bates, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for finance and communities, said: “All partners are aware of this matter and how it impacts on local communities and are working together to explore possible solutions.

“At the meeting, the council and partners demonstrated their commitment to working with local people to address the public’s concerns.

“Cheshire East Council has established a working group with partners including the police, Everybody Sport and Recreation, and the local authority’s wholly-owned company Ansa, who are investigating options regarding the most appropriate precautions to be taken on Barony Field.”

Once these options have been investigated, Cheshire East will then consult with local residents to gain their views on the proposals.

Cllr Bates added: “As part of this process it was good to engage with the residents on this very emotive issue.”

Anyone wishing to report any instances of illegal encampment should contact Cheshire East Council on 0300 123 5500.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

  1. Hello I’ll like to share i was disgusted taking my 2 year old son to the park while the travellers were there, I discovered they had been using the climbing frame where the slide was as a place to faecie and urinate. Since then I feel disgusted to take my little boy back then
