Nantwich Singers

The Nantwich Singers are to perform a concert of music, voices and harp on May 25 in St Mary’s Church, Nantwich.

The 45-minute concert will include the enchanting work by female composer, Cecilia McDowall.

Her suite of English folk songs for mixed voices and harp is titled “A Fancy of Folksongs”.

The harpist is Lauren Scott, an experienced solo, chamber and orchestral musician who lives in Sandbach.

The programme will also include three part-songs by Gerald Finzi whose songs are regarded as some of the best in the English language.

The arrangement of “My Spirit Sang all Day” will also be performed.

Walton’s Cantico del Sole will provide a contrast with the Italian dialect words of St Francis of Assisi.

Nantwich Singers musical director Alison Phillips sang in the UK premiere of the work with the BBC Northern Singers in 1974.

Tickets cost £8 and are available from the church shop or on the door.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
